Nutrition and dietetics
The department of nutrition and dietetics provides services to adults and children at University Hospital Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and in the Lewisham community.
The Nutrition and Dietetics team provides education, information and advice on food and nutrition needs. They see patients in outpatient clinics, on inpatient wards and in the community.

Adult outpatient services
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
- General dietetic clinics and specialist clinics for gastroenterology and oncology
- Diabetes and antenatal diabetes clinics and education are also provided at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup
- A referral can be made by your consultant or GP
University Hospital Lewisham
- General clinics and specialist clinics for bariatrics, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, gastroenterology, HIV and oncology
- A referral can be made by your consultant or GP
Children's outpatient services
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
- Specialist clinics and home visits for diabetes at QEH and Queen Mary’s Sidcup, as well as specialist oncology and allergy clinics and general dietitian clinics
- Referrals are accepted from paediatricians only
- Greenwich GPs should refer to the Oxleas Community Dietitians (0208 836 8621 and select Option 2 followed by Option 2) or email: oxl-tr.childrenstherapies@nhs.net
University Hospital Lewisham
- Specialist services for children with allergies, cystic fibrosis and diabetes, as part of the multidisciplinary team
- General clinics for children with complex needs, faltering growth/failure to thrive, selective eating and feeding difficulties and vitamin and mineral deficiencies eg iron deficiency
- Cystic fibrosis and diabetes dietitians also offer home visits
- Referrals are accepted from paediatricians and GPs
Adult community services
- Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Team for adults with feeding tubes living in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.
- Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. Dietitian support provided for two days a week. Service includes advice for diabetes, weight management, lipid management, healthy eating, oral nutritional support. In addition, advice on catering provision and group education sessions delivered as needed.
- Community Diabetes Dietitians. Part of the diabetes multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing expert dietetic support for adults with diabetes in Lewisham. The MDT comprises dietitians, diabetes specialist nurses, specialist diabetes doctors and administrators. Clinics are run at University Hospital Lewisham, the Waldron Health Centre and the Woolstone Health Centre.
Children's community services
- Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Team for children with feeding tubes living in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.
- Children’s dietitians for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Lewisham
- Community diabetes dietitians for children living in Greenwich and Lewisham. Part of the community diabetes multi-disciplinary team (MDT) providing expert dietetic support for children with diabetes in Greenwich and Lewisham. The MDT comprises dietitians, diabetes specialist nurses, specialist diabetes doctors and administrators.
