Medical Diagnostics Centre
There is a Medical Diagnostics Centre (MDC) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital that provides a wide range of diagnostic, observational and treatment services.
Patients attend the clinic independently or inpatients are escorted to the unit from their ward. The MDC does not provide services for bed bound patients.

What conditions does the unit treat?
The unit provides diagnostic services and treats a wide range of conditions including:
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Cellulitis
- Pyelonephritis
- Anaemia
And provides:
- Blood transfusions
- Intravenous antibiotics
- Venesection
- Lumbar punctures
- Iron infusions and other drug infusions
- Rapid access to diagnostics for VTE
Who is the Medical Diagnostic Centre for?
The unit is for all referred patients over 16 who can attend the unit independently. You can be referred for example by your GP or practise nurse. We can provide hospital transport and wheelchairs to help you get to the unti.
