Organ donation
We are committed to helping save lives by promoting and facilitating organ donation after death.
To do this, staff from our hospitals work closely with specialist nurses in organ donation (known as SNODs) from NHS Blood and Transplant – the national NHS body for organ donation. SNODs work with hospital staff to help identify potential organ donors and guide and support their families through the donation process. Once a donor is identified, SNODs then work in collaboration with colleagues at transplant centres throughout the UK to identify suitable recipients for the donated organs and arrange for them to be delivered and transplanted.
How you can help
Only around 5,000 people each year in the UK die in circumstances where they can become a donor. So if you want to make a real difference, join the NHS Organ Donor Register and, crucially, talk about your donation decision with family and friends.
Letting them know what you've decided now makes it much easier for them to support your decision to be a donor.
