TeamLGT celebrates World Book Day

Today, Team LGT’s fantastic Play and School Teams at QEH and UHL dressed up as their favourite fictional characters and shared the magic of reading with our young patients. By handing out free books, they brought joy and imagination to our children’s wards, making World Book Day extra special.
This year’s World Book Day theme, "Read Your Way," highlights the importance of making reading fun and empowering children to choose books they love.
At QEH, books were kindly ordered and organised by Carole Oldfield, librarian at Newhaven PRU School, in collaboration with Moon Lane Ink Bookshop. Heather Damon, Queen Elizabeth Newhaven Hospital School Room Teacher, said: "We celebrate this special day by gifting books instead of tokens, ensuring that children in the hospital don’t miss out on this exciting event in their school calendar. By dressing up and sharing stories, we help create a collective educational experience one book at a time."
Parents also shared their appreciation for the celebration:
"We love World Book Day. My daughter was going to dress up as Goldilocks at school, but because of surgery today, she's missing it. It's nice we still got to celebrate here. Thank you for the book."
"That’s the first smile I’ve seen since my child was admitted; seeing the Play Specialist in costume made such a difference!"
A huge thank you to our teams for making the day magical.
