Mama Academy Memory Wallets launched at LGT

At LGT, our Bereavement Midwives in Maternity are proud to launch the Mama Academy Memory Wallets, developed in partnership with Mama Academy and bereavement midwives across South East London. This important initiative, funded by the South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System, aims to provide compassionate support and clear information to families experiencing pregnancy loss.
To introduce the wallets, the team visited the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU), Emergency Department (ED), and Maternity Units at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) on Friday 14 March.
Liz Ware, Bereavement Midwife at LGT, said: “The Memory Wallet is an important resource designed to support families through pregnancy loss by providing clear guidance on emotional and physical recovery, bereavement services, and memory-making.
With QR codes linking to translated resources, we are ensuring that care remains accessible and culturally sensitive in line with the National Bereavement Care Pathway. This launch event was a valuable opportunity for colleagues to see the wallets first hand and understand how they can use them to better support bereaved families.”
At LGT, the wallets will be available in key areas, including ED, EPAU, maternity triage, the delivery suite, and screening units. Colleagues have been provided with training on their use to help families receive the right support at the right time.
This co-produced initiative was launched with support from the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), reflecting our commitment to improving bereavement care and ensuring that no family faces pregnancy loss alone.
