LGT unveils state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheter Lab

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital at LGT has officially opened its newly refurbished Cardiac Catheter Laboratory (Cath Lab), marking a significant milestone in the hospital's commitment to advancing cardiac care for our community. The £1.8 million investment in state-of-the-art technology and medical equipment will enhance the diagnosis and treatment of our cardiology patients through minimally invasive procedures.

Replacing a 16-year-old lab, the new facility demonstrates LGT’s dedication to providing modern, top-quality care. The upgraded Cath Lab is equipped with the latest X-ray imaging technology, enabling more accurate diagnoses and treatments, with sophisticated contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic tools for conditions such angina, heart attacks and heart rhythm conditions.

The advanced equipment, first of its kind within London, reduces the amount of X-ray radiation exposure during procedures, ensuring safer treatments and with excellent imaging resolution and ergonomics, enables more efficient procedural times for our patients.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Cardiology Team and executive members, including Ben Travis, Chief Executive; Spencer Prosser, Chief Finance Officer; Moses Ayoola, Director of Estates and Facilities, Chief Nurse, Louise Crosby; and our Estates teams. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, cake, and the opportunity to showcase our new state-of-the-art equipment to colleagues. It was a celebration of all the hard work and dedication that went into the refurbishment. Additional team members to thank include Charlotte Carter, General Manager; Charmane Kay, Cath Lab Nurse Manager; and Renz Francisco, Lead Cardiac Radiographer.

Dr. Sundip Patel, Consultant Cardiologist and Lead for Cardiac Catheter Laboratory at LGT, shared his excitement about the new lab: “This cutting-edge facility allows us to deliver first-class cardiac care, closer to home for our patients, saving them and their families the need to travel into central London. With the new technology, we can perform faster, more precise procedures, in a safer manner, leading to better outcomes and quicker recovery times. In time, this will lead to a reduction in waiting times both for our out-patients and in-patients. This is a clear positive step forwards for our service future proofing and enhancing the excellent care we as an entire team provide to our patients. We are grateful to all who have supported this project across LGT and needless to say the entire clinical team who have continued to look after our patients.”

This refurbishment is a key part of LGT’s ongoing effort to maintain the highest standards in cardiac care and improve the quality of life for our local patients.
