LGT Star of the Month September

Congratulations to Louise Bushell, Phlebotomy Manager at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL)  who has been chosen as our LGT Star of the Month for September 2024.

Louise was nominated for the ‘Star Player Award’ and here is why: “Louise is a dedicated and compassionate person that always goes the extra mile to make sure our patients are having the best experience in our department.

“She is also the one of the main minds behind the Phlebotomy training course for private students that has been provided at LGT to anyone who wants to become a professional phlebotomist. The course is also highly profitable, so all resources raised are directed to LGT and this will improve the quality of our services as well.

“Louise's exceptional leadership during a major service disruption caused by the Synnovis cyber-attack allowed us to keep our service running at a reduced level while ensuring clear communication with colleagues and minimising the impact on our patients.

“She is a very good manager and all colleagues working under her supervision can see how supportive, approachable and compassionate she is. When we have a team working happy like we do, this reflects directly on our service's quality. All the indexes on Family and Friends Reports, the Staff Surveys and the environment in Suite 1 can support this.

“Louise’s proactive approach, alongside her role in developing a successful Phlebotomy Course that benefits us and future healthcare professionals, demonstrates her commitment to LGT."

Louise was congratulated by her colleagues and presented with her certificate, a £100 voucher from LGT, and a    fruit basket donated by Hasan Er, who runs the fruit stall at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Louise and her colleagues

Louise, said:  “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for being selected as LGT Star of the Month. I am deeply appreciative of the support and encouragement I have received from my colleagues in Phlebotomy and in Allied Clinical Services. I believe a manager is judged by the success of the team and I am lucky to have a wonderful group of colleagues in Phlebotomy.

"Our success is a direct result of our shared commitment to working together and supporting one another, we have been able to achieve good results. I am particularly proud of our private phlebotomy training course which has proved very popular, and I hope gives opportunities to other colleagues to work in healthcare. I am committed to continuing to contribute to the success of our team and LGT as a whole.”

Conrad Maramba, Head of Security and Local Security Management Specialist who chaired this month’s judging panel commented:  “Louise Bushell's impressive leadership during a major service disruption, her proactive approach, and her role in establishing a profitable training course that benefits LGT and future healthcare workers showcases her dedication. Her ability to create a supportive and high-performing team makes her a clear winner of the LGT Star of the Month Award."
