An egg-stra special Easter at LGT

Easter was made extra special this year on Safari Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and the Children’s Wards at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL), thanks to the incredible generosity of our local communities, charities, and businesses.

At QEH’s Safari Ward, patients and colleagues were delighted by the overwhelming number of Easter egg donations. Among the many  contributions, NatWest Woolwich delivered an amazing 120 Easter eggs, and the NICU Induction team shared Easter-themed gifts. Special thanks to the Spread a Smile charity for their donation of eggs and gifts, and to Nic from Safari Ward who added chocolate Easter figures to the collection.

A standout donation came from Zentar HealthCare, who brought not only a large number of Easter eggs and activity packs but also sandwiches for our hardworking colleagues. Their visit included a costumed Easter Bunny who made rounds to all four CYP departments, handing out eggs and activity packs to children and young people along the way.

At UHL, the Easter Bunny made a appearance in his smart coat and tie, spreading joy with hugs, high-fives, and plenty of chocolate. He visited children in the Day Care Unit, Inpatients, and Emergency Department, handing out Easter eggs and marshmallow lollies. Some chose to get stuck in right away, whereas others are keen to stash their treats for Easter Sunday!

The Easter excitement was felt by everyone. One of our inpatient nurses, commented: “Tomi has been so excited for the Easter egg hunt. He’s going home soon but said he wants to stay until he’s found all the eggs and gets a prize.”

A parent, added: “Thank you so much for doing this, it’s things like this that make hospital much nicer.”

We’re incredibly thankful to all the individuals and local businesses who donated, including:

  • Spread a Smile

  • Claire from Gordon Arms

  • Cards Direct Lewisham

  • Zentar HealthCare

  • NatWest Woolwich

  • NICU Induction

  • Mascot Moments for providing the Easter Bunny costume

Miriam Willats, Health Play Specialist, said:  "A huge thank you to everyone who made the Easter bunny visit and the Easter egg hunts possible, we are so grateful for the generous donations! Events like this really make the children's hospital stay a happier one and it's such a privilege being part of that."

From all of us at LGT,  we wish everyone an egg-cellent Easter.
