Flu cases on the rise – your support needed

As is common across the country, we are currently treating a very high number of patients with respiratory infections.

These viruses are having a significant impact on our services , and we are asking patients or visitors showing symptoms of any respiratory infection, including flu, not to come to our hospitals unless they need emergency treatment.

Alternative same day treatment can be sought from a number of other health care services including Pharmacists, Urgent Care or Treatment Centres and GPs. You can learn more about when to use these services here.

If you are suffering from any symptoms of respiratory infection and need to rearrange a planned appointment, please contact the number on your patient letter or call our Outpatient Call Centre on 020 8333 3216.

Changes to our mask wearing policy from Wednesday 8 January 2025

Additionally, we need to do all we can to protect our communities from these viruses which can lead to serious health conditions for vulnerable patients.

From Wednesday 8 January 2025, we have re-introduced mandatory mask wearing for all patient facing colleagues or colleagues moving through patient facing areas. We are also asking patients and visitors attending our hospitals for any reason to wear a mask if it does not compromise care.

Masks are available, via dispensers, at our main entrances

Flu, Covid and respiratory virus infections can affect any age group, although the severe complications of such infections affect children, the immunocompromised and the elderly the most and we are also encouraging all eligible patients to get their Flu vaccination as soon as possible.

You can book an appointment via your GP, visit certain Pharmacists or go to a local walk-in centre for your vaccine.

Help us to help keep South East London safe this winter.
