April’s LGT Star of the Month
We are delighted to announce that Susy Logan, Ward Sister on the Children’s Day Care Unit at University Hospital Lewisham, has been awarded our LGT Star of the Month for April 2024.
Laura Crome, Matron for Children and Young People's Services, put Susy forward for the Star Player Award and explained why she nominated her:
“Susy has devoted her time over the past year to improving the patient journey for our Children and Young people with autism and neurodiversity attending the Children's Day Care Unit for elective surgery and elective procedures.
"Along with the South Thames Paediatric Network (STPN), she has worked to highlight the gaps in provision for these patients. Then, with the assistance of the STPN surgical lead, she has taken the lead in developing a policy for these patients to improve their experience and care.
"Since then, Susy has created the policy, led on developing a patient journey video that is available on the LGT YouTube channel and supported the play team in receiving Picture Exchange Communication System and Makaton training, to help our patients with communication or learning difficulties. She has also expanded the range of play resources available too.
"Susy deserves this recognition. She took the initiative to identify a gap in our service and has since worked to make improvements that will benefit our children and young people at LGT.”
Laura congratulated Susy and presented her with her certificate, a £100 voucher from the Trust, and a fruit basket donated by Hasan Er, who runs the fruit stall at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Susy said: “It was a lovely surprise to find out I had been nominated and won the LGT Star of the Month, I'd like to say thank you to Matron Laura Crome, and she is always very encouraging and offers support for me to develop any ideas for service improvements. Leading the team to develop the services provided by the Children's Day Care to improve the patient's hospital journey is very important to me, ensuring we create a supportive and inclusive environment for all at LGT.
“We have a fantastic team of nurses on Children's Day Care Unit who are supportive and put the child and family at the heart of everything we do. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the colleagues who offered their support and took part in the making of the admission video - Welcome to Children's Day Care Unit: Eve's Journey at LGT.”
Conrad Maramba, Head of Security and Local Security Management Specialist who chaired this month’s judging panel commented: "Susy is a deserving winner of the LGT Star of the Month Award. She has shown exceptional dedication by leading initiatives to improve care for children and young people with autism and neurodiversity undergoing elective procedures. Susy, congratulations on your well-deserved recognition! Your dedication to excellence and innovation sets a remarkable standard for compassionate healthcare.”
