An egg-stra special Easter at LGT

Easter was extra special this year for our patients and colleagues at LGT, all thanks to the incredible generosity of local communities, businesses, and charities.

At QEH, patients and colleagues were overwhelmed by the large number of Easter egg donations. NatWest Woolwich contributed an incredible 120 Easter eggs, while the NICU Induction team added Easter-themed gifts to the collection.

Scott Family Funerals played a key role by collecting and donating eggs for Safari Ward. Virgin Media and Tesco teamed up to provide a massive donation of Easter eggs, and Spread a Smile charity also brought joy with their gifts. Special thanks to Nic from Safari Ward who added a selection of chocolate Easter figures to the collection. A standout donation came from Zentar HealthCare, who not only donated Easter eggs and activity packs, but also provided sandwiches for our hardworking colleagues. The visit included a costumed Easter Bunny who made rounds across the four Children and Young People's (CYP) departments, spreading delight by handing out Easter eggs and activity packs to children and young people.

At UHL,  the Easter Bunny made a surprise appearance in a smart coat and tie, spreading happiness with hugs, high-fives, and plenty of chocolate. The bunny visited children in the Day Care Unit, Inpatients, and Emergency Department, delivering Easter eggs and marshmallow lollies. Some children immediately dove into their treats, while others decided to save their goodies for Easter Sunday.

We also want to say thanks to Ligia, Marie, Sonia, Nima and Kashai, from the Patient Care Group for their lovely Easter egg donations to the Children's Emergency Department and Inpatient wards, and to Tyrone and the team from Regular Cleaners for their generous egg donations across all four Children's Departments. A big thank you also goes to the Catford Dog Unit for their thoughtful donation of Easter eggs for the children, and to Alexander, the staff, and customers of Lewisham CO-OP Bank for their kind donations of eggs, sweets, and a cute duck.

The Easter excitement was felt by everyone.  One inpatient nurse shared: “Tomi has been so excited for the Easter egg hunt. He’s going home soon but said he wants to stay until he’s found all the eggs and gets a prize.”

A parent added: “Thank you so much for doing this, it’s things like this that make the hospital much nicer.”

We are thankful to all the individuals and local businesses who donated, including:

  • Claire from Gordon Arms
  • Virgin Media

Miriam Willats, Health Play Specialist, expressed her thanks: A huge thank you to everyone who made the Easter bunny visit and the Easter egg hunts possible, we are so grateful for the generous donations. Events like this really make the children's hospital stay a happier one and it's such a privilege being part of that."

From all of us at LGT,  we wish everyone an egg-cellent Easter.
