We are excited to announce the integration of LGT’s Patient Portal with the NHS App - a significant milestone in the Patient Portal programme and our Trusts ambitions to digitally enable patients.

This integration will enhance patient access and healthcare experience across south east London, empowering patients to take charge of their health with greater convenience.

With this integration, our patients can now view their outpatient appointments directly within the NHS App. This functionality simplifies access for patients who already use the NHS App for managing repeat prescriptions, GP appointments and other services. Patient feedback has highlighted the complexity of navigating multiple online systems from different providers.

Dr. Neil Goulbourne, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer & Deputy CEO at LGT, said: “By integrating LGT’s Patient Portal with the NHS App, we are reducing barriers and aligning with the NHS's vision of a single point of entry for various NHS services. Future enhancements to the Patient Portal will also be accessible via the NHS App”.

Dr Toby Garood, Medical Director for NHS South East London said: “We are pleased to see Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust become the first Trust in south east London to make it easier for patients to see their appointments through the NHS App. By working together as an ICS, we hope this is the first of many steps to join up different apps to support patients to take more control of their care."

The Patient Portal is a secure online system with a number of digital functions including allowing patients to view their outpatient appointments, patients can receive messages from their care team, patients can view digitised letters and patients can reschedule appointments using digital tools. It is accessible from computers, tablets, or smartphones.

The NHS App offers a user-friendly platform for managing appointments, accessing medical records, and receiving personalised health information from healthcare providers. By streamlining these services, the NHS aims to enhance patient engagement and reduce administrative burdens.

Dr. Goulbourne added: "Integrating our Patient Portal with the NHS App marks a significant step forward in our commitment to providing accessible and efficient healthcare. This technology makes it easier for patients to connect with us and manage their health on their own terms. We are proud to be the first Trust in south east London to achieve this."

Key features of the integration include:

  • Appointment Management: Patients can easily book, reschedule, or cancel appointments.
  • Access to Health Records: Secure access to test results, care plans, digitised versions of some letter types and future appointment details allows for informed discussions with healthcare professionals.
  • Health Reminders: Additional appointment reminders help patients stay on top of multiple appointments while allowing patients to respond quickly to request rescheduling.

This initiative aligns with the NHS’s goal to digitise healthcare and provide innovative solutions that meet patients' evolving needs.
