2019 Christmas toy appeal is officially open!
The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust 2019 Christmas toy appeal is now officially open.
Christmas is fast approaching and the Trust is calling for donations of new toys for children and young people as part of the annual toy appeal. The toys will be handed out on Christmas Day by Santa Claus to all the children at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) who are too ill to go home for the festive period.
Robert Cole, Head of Nursing for Children and Young People, said: "We run the toy appeal campaign every year and we are so grateful to the public for their generous donations. We know that no child really wants to spend Christmas Day in hospital but we want to do everything we can to make their day as enjoyable as possible.”
Do the toys have to be new?
Yes please - for infection control reasons we can only accept new gifts in their original packaging. Also, please don’t wrap them in advance or we won’t know what they are. All toys must have the correct CE safety mark.
What can you donate?
Toys and gifts for ages 0-16
Babies 0 to 12 months :
- Rattles
- Playmats
- Teethers
- Soft toys
- Musical mobiles
- Jigsaws and peg puzzles
- Developmental toys, stacking cups and blocks
Children up to 16:
- Arts and crafts (paints, colouring books, playdough)
- Jigsaws and puzzles
- Dolls and action figures
- Toy cars
- Construction kits such as Lego
- Books, magazines, comics
- Board games eg Connect 4 and Frustration
- Gift cards
- Computer games (PS4, Nintendo Wii, XboxOne, DS games and controllers)
- Craft kits (for example jewellery making kits and nail art)
- Portable DVD and CD players
- Headphones, in and over the ear are great
- Smellies or beauty sets for boys and girls
- Stocking fillers such as fidget spinners and slinkys
