Pathology at Lewisham Hospital

The department encompasses a wide range of disciplines and services including:

  • Haematology and blood transfusion
  • Clinical biochemistry
  • Histology
  • Phlebotomy

QEH Mortuary and Bereavement services

Please note from July 4th, 2016 all microbiology samples (including virology, serology) will be analysed at Queen Elizabeth hospital.  

 

Haematology, blood transfusion and clinical biochemistry run a 24/7 shift service including specialist testing to the hospital.

 

Mortuary and Bereavement staff are specially trained to perform the wide range of duties the service requires, and work closely together for the benefit of all those visiting the mortuary.

Location

The Pathology Department is located on the 1st and 2nd Floors of the Pathology Block in the Pink Zone at Lewisham Hospital.

What conditions does the department treat?

The department is involved in diagnostic testing of a very wide range of conditions. 70% of diagnosis depends on pathology testing.

What services do we provide?

Diagnostic testing to a large number of departments in the hospital, outpatient clinics and primary care. The Mortuary and Bereavement service provides post mortem services and provides support and assistance to bereaved relatives and friends.

The services we offer are described in the user handbooks included below, which have been compiled by the Medical and Scientific staff within Pathology. We hope they enhance your knowledge of our services and enable you to use then to their full potential. Location

The laboratories are located on the 1st and 2nd  floors of the  Waterloo Block

Mortuary Location: South end of site next to Nockholds House and car park

How can you refer to the service?

There is no self-referral, patients can be referred by medical staff, nursing staff and GPs.
