Emergency Contraception

        General consultation

If you have had an accident with a condom or forgotten to use one you might get pregnant. There is a single pill called the emergency contraceptive that helps prevent this. It works best if taken within a few hours but still works up to three days after the accident. It is very safe and doesn't usually make you feel ill.

When you arrive at the clinic, tell us straight away that you are here for emergency contraception.

If we are closed you can get this from your family doctor (GP), Family Planning Clinics, Accident and Emergency Departments and from Pharmacies. Pharmacies do provide the emergency contraceptive without a prescription but there may be a charge.
